The Borough looking for some Cup Magic

1 year ago By Greenwich Borough

We Welcome Three Bridges to The DGS in The Emirates FA Cup

After a stuttering start to our league season it’s the welcome distraction of the Emirates FA Cup tomorrow as we welcome Three Bridges FC to the DGS Stadium.

We locked horns last season with the West Sussex club in The Isthmian League South with The Borough coming out on top on both occasions.

In October last season the teams met at the DGS with The Borough storming to a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from R Denness (13'), L Morrison (22'), J Britnell (41'). The Bridges rallied and gave us something to think about. Maxime Agnoly a half time sub scoring just four minutes from the restart on his team debut and then a Penalty for Hakeem Adelakun nine minutes later brought the visitors back within one goal. Charlie Macdonald calmed the nerves restoring the two goal cushion though just two minutes later. The Borough running out 4-2 victors and remaining top of the League.

In the return league game on 28th March on a tricky surface at Jubilee Field the home side took the lead with a 20th minute Penalty converted by Tony Garrod. It was a short lived lead as Charlie Macdonald levelled the scores just four minutes later. Three unanswered goals in a magic fifteen minute second half spell secured the points though, a brace for Travis Gregory and one from Mo Eisa adding to Bridges relegation woes.

Three Bridges were eventually relegated finding themselves in the Southern Combination League after five seasons of Isthmian league football.

This First Preliminary Round in this seasons Emirates FA Cup is the second game for Three Bridges in the competition this season having secured a 2-0 win at Horsham in the Extra Preliminary round.

The Bridges followed that season opener with a 2-1 home win against Uckfield Town in the League.
Both clubs come into this game off the back of a 1-0 defeats. The Bridges on the road to Loxwood conceding in the 83rd minute and ours on the road to Corinthian Casuals conceding with nearly the last kick of the game in the 93rd.

A small matter of £1800 to the winners and a chance to get a season back on track will no doubt ensure that this is will live up to the FA Cups magical billing.
